Also worth mentioning that there's sometimes design elements on the player version that the fan version doesn't have at all. For example, the player version of a specific kit might have patterns in the material that the fan version doesn't. I don't have any examples off hand, but if you watch comparison videos, you can see it.

The MLS is the most egregious example, they just straight up leave out patterns and details in the fan versions yet still charge $100 for them

Visited Rome this past week. They were out of 1s(lol) on the day I visited the team store so I couldn't get a Dybala nameset. Ended up just buying the blank third kit because it looks*that* good.
Ran into another team store a couple days later and ended up buying the third kit with the nameset. Went back to the first store to return the first purhcase and...... no returns. Literally still polybagged and everything. So now I'm stuck with a XXL third kit that I don't need. There are worse problems to have, but it's a headache that feels pretty unnecessary

Long sleeve player version shirts were not available at retail. Most blanks were almost certainly turned into Ronaldinhos for that iconic goal va Chelsea. so I had to get creative.

Thank you! It was quite an odyssey. I initially sent it to a guy in England who really struggled with the removal and was starting to get concerning with his updates. Fortunately he did send it back to me - but it was a mess. I sent it to Kit Revival in Houston TX and he was able to work some magic on it with a few different treatment sessions and produced the final result.
