I do think with retro+ colorways the 4’s are usually better, but with the OG colorways alone it’s much more complicated. But of the 8 original shoes the BC3 comes out on top imo. The WC3 is probably second and one could make an argument it’s the most iconic of the bunch.

It will never be settled though, just as Coke vs Pepsi never will be either.

Even at that time, most people in my age group living in Los Angeles county preferred 4’s over 3’s. But my older uncles at the time preferred the 3’s for some reason.

It’s 4’s over 3’s for me, mainly because the styling on the 4’s was one of its kind. It’s a close call though. I would even put the 5s right behind them because in 1990, clear soles were a complete novelty and the styling for its time was incomparable.

NTM, Jordan’s most iconic 80s moment was the shot that beat CLE, and not only was Mike wearing the 4’s but the shot marked the beginning of his ascension in the playoffs (although he lost to the Pistons that year). But all in all, 1989 was when MJ really put the league on notice that him and the Bulls were coming.

I feel you. In my high school the 4s were aspirational while the 3s were considered last year's boring, plane, pre-curser to the amazing 4. Once the 4s came out absolutely no one cared about the 3. That said, today it can be considered more wearable as it's far more subtle with less going on. And it doesn't yellow as badly b/c there's no mesh; though the back tab did. That made the black colorways so awesome. The midsole did, however, yellow on both models. I personally never took a second look at a 3 until the past decade; it was always 4s for me. Now I enjoy wearing both. And while 3s are still way more subtle and very wearable, I like the 4 more.

I agree about the 5. It was freak'n awesome. The clear sole with the jumpan on it was truly mind blowing, and the 3M tongue was unreal. The shark teeth were cool too. It was considered amazing like the 4 and even better at that time. The 6 design was so unique that it turned heads, but I wouldn't say it was overall preferred over the 4 and 5. Again, no one gave two s**ts about the 3 in my world at that time.
