On the 14th last month, I was heading to work and waiting at a stoplight. All the sudden I hear a BOOM, glance in my mirrors and see 2 different cars coming at me fast, so I put my foot on the gas and manage to get ahead 10 feet and get slightly onto the shoulder, but at the speed they were traveling a collision was unavoidable. Left side of my bumper tore off, tail light chipped, and hatch caved in to the point it would only raise half way. The other cars? The Ford Focus had it's Trunk pushed in towards the backseat, and the Mazda3's (that rearended it) whole front end exploded - debris scattered everywhere. Luckily the police station was only a half mile away, so they had an officer on scene in less than a minute. Focus Driver was sitting on the ground crying and an Ambulance loaded him up. Mazda3 Driver was on phone with her parents, who showed up a few minute later. Officer approached me and asked for my documents but said I wasn't required to do anything since he was already writing Mazda3 driver a ticket.

2 days later, I took my car to a bodyshop to get an estimate, and forwarded that to Mazda3's driver insurance. By the end of the week I had a check in the mail for $6k. The bodyshop was booked 10 days out so I scheduled it for then.

In the meanwhile, my mom is paranoid telling me I need to get checked out. Since my car was the sole survivor in this accident, I didn't see the necessity but I reluctantly got some XRay's done. A few days after that, I guess the Report went public cause I had like 5 text messages/phone calls from random Lawyers offering me representation. One of my co-workers has been in two accidents and got 5 figure checks both times so instead of hanging up, I actually conversed with the attorneys.

One of em sent me a contigency contract, saying they'll work on the case for free, in exchange for getting 1/3rd of my medical payout. When I had the XRays done, they gave me a PT referral, problem being most of these Physical Therapy offices close @ 3pm and I generally get off work 5-6PM. So they referred me to this chiropractor. Dude is a character saying "I'm the top 5 in the country at what I do in terms off settlements". He also works on contigency and he's explaining I need to come on a daily basis, because a bigger bill results in a bigger payout for patients. So far I've been going every other day.

Now fast forward to this weekend...I'm waiting to make a left hand turn on a 4 lane road, and apparently the light was turning yellow so the guy in the lane closest waves me over. I start making my turn and I can see a minivan approaching in the distance, probably about 4 car lengths back but I'm thinking I got enough clearance. Well turns out he was trying to beat the red light and had to be going atleast 25-30 mph over the limit, cause he slammed right in to me which knocked my passenger wheel straight off and pretty much totaled me car. I ended up being written a ticket and the officer says there's no way to prove how fast the other driver was going so I'm 100% at fault.

Anyone else been in a crazy situation like this?

co-worker was riding an electric scooter on the sidewalk and there was a car coming out of the costco driveway. he slammed into the side of the car. cut his hand open and when he talked to me about it, i said idk man, you’re not supposed to be on the sidewalk and YOU slammed into THEIR car. he still went and talked to a lawyer.

fast forward over a year later and he got a settlement for over $120k. he stopped doing uber eats on that scooter and bought a new lexus 😂

Damn bruh, you got bad luck. Probably should’ve got a dashcam after the first accident. Stay low and stop driving, obviously might need more PT and more x-rays. Hope you can get more settlement money.

My dad got a bag off a car accident where the other driver was totally in the wrong. Completely wrecked his car. He had to do PT for w/e injuries he had for his neck and got a lawyer. Ended up getting somewhere from 10-15k. Used it to by a used car and the rest went to his wedding and our new house.

Treat money like that as if it's not actually your money. Invest it and let it sit.

I've known multiple people (not friends, but siblings of friends, acquaintances, etc.) who got their $60k-$100K payouts and blew through it in less than a year. One bought a $50K Lexus. Another got a $10K boob job. Another rented a $4K/mo. apartment (for a year). They were all back to living paycheck to paycheck within a year.
